Ten Steps to Owning Your New Bamboo Home

When you have your land and have the proper zoning for your project, and can estimate how much you plan to spend and how you will finance your project, you are ready to check out Bamboo Living Homes. We are here to assist you every step of the way.

1. Review Our Website and Give Us a Call. Familiarize yourself with our standard house models at www.bambooliving.com. Each of our models feature floor plans, descriptions and costs. Contact our sales department at 808.572.1007 and let us know why you are interested in a bamboo house, where you want to build, your construction timelines, financing method, project scope and what you plan on using it for. Make a list of questions you would like us to answer.

2. Tour Bamboo Homes. We have built over 100 bamboo homes on the Hawaiian Islands. Set up an appointment with us in advance to tour bamboo homes. We will reimburse round trip coach airfare (up to $400) to visit one of these homes if you purchase a home. Bring your camera, questions and ideas of what you would do with the home on your property.

3. Start Architectural Drawings. Our design team can turn your concept and budget into the house you envision. Architectural plans are needed to submit for a building permit and to apply for a building loan or mortgage. A deposit on Architecture Design Contract initiates this process.

4. Get Building Permits. You submit our Architectural Permit Set of drawings to your local building department. You provide building site and local building code information. The building permit fee and the time required to obtain a building permit varies with each jurisdiction.

5. Arrange Your Financing. If you intend to finance your new home, we can give you some recommendations for mortgage brokers and national lenders who have finnaced bamboo homes.

6. Get Construction Estimates. You'll need contractors to prepare your site and build your foundation with electrical and plumbing access. This must be ready when your house arrives. Get bids from local contractors for all projects for finishing your bamboo house after assembly.

7. Order Your Bamboo House. Our estimate and house contract will state clearly what you are purchasing, the costs, the warranty and the estimated date of arrival. Once we receive the 50% construction deposit, we begin building at our factory in Vietnam. Typically, your house is built in 3-5 months after you place the order. After the house is built, it is disassembled, put in a container and shipped. Final payment is due on shipment.

8. We Ship Your House. We coordinate shipping and notify you with the approximate date of arrival. Shipping takes about one month . In Hawaii, you are responsible for arranging container transport from the port to your house site and unloading it and returning it to the port. On the mainland, the container is usually delivered to the house site.

9. Assemble Your House. You contract a technical assembly supervisor qualified by Bamboo Technologies to come to the home site and direct your local contractor or construction crew. This will assure quality home assembly in the shortest time. Assembly can take a few days to a week or more depending on the size of your project.

10. Finish Your House. Get the roofing material on right away, then doors, windows, electrical, plumbing. Install finished flooring and appliances. Get inspections for plumbing and electrical as soon as you complete them. We will inspect the house for final compliance for building codes. Then get your final building inspection and certificate of occupancy.
